Knowledge Space Theory

Competence-based Knowledge Space Theory (CbKST) Training Course
A training course which provides an introduction to Competence-based Knowledge Space Theory (CbKST). The course contains explanations, diagrams, examples, and a set of test items.
Introduction to Knowledge Spaces: Theory and Applications
An Open Distance Learning (ODL) course supported by the SOKRATES/ERASMUS CDA

    » Theory of Knowledge Structures
Mathematical-psychological models and theories of knowledge structures, especially the Competence- based Knowledge Space Theory (CbKST), are continously being elaborated. Theoretical developments focus for instance on the (re-)definition of competences and skills and their connection to action taxonomies and ontologies. Recent developments include dynamic models that enable sound competence diagnosis as well as adaptive, psycho-pedagogical interventions in continuously changing environments.
» Methods for Generating and Validating Knowledge and Competence Structures
Based on the Competence-based Knowledge Space Theory (CbKST) domains of knowledge are structured and procedures for creating and evaluating structures empirically are developed. Additionally the evaluation of adaptive systems is investigated and performed.
    » Technology
The theoretical models on knowledge and competence representation are applied in research and development on personalised tutoring systems, including game and simulation based learning, self-directed learning, workplace integrated learning, macro and micro adaptivity as well as adaptive knowledge assessment. This is done primarily within interdisciplinary European projects under the Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Lifelong Learning (LLP) programs. Remarkable evidence of successful other applications are coming from investigations on the comprehension of graphs, on mothers’ educational values, the cognitive development of children, or the organisational actions.
